The brand design process
Creating a brand design involves four milestones. After the kick-off and briefing, we develop two design routes, one of which is further developed based on your feedback and finalized as brand guidelines.
1. Design audit & concept development (Week 1)
We review or develop the strategic foundation. The design briefing is based on your Brand Frame® or your existing brand strategy using our briefing template.
Deliverables: Design briefing document, kick-off meeting
We analyze your current design and that of your main competitors, develop moodboards and explore initial design directions.
Deliverables: Visual competitive analysis, design audit presentation
2. Two design routes (Week 2-4)
We develop two concepts. Both reflect the identified brand personality in different ways: e.g. through different color combinations, typography or wordmarks and logos.
Deliverable: Presentation with 2 complete design routes and exemplary applications / mock-ups
3. Finalization & guidelines (Week 4-5)
Based on your consolidated feedback, one route is finalized and, once approved, translated into brand guidelines.
Deliverable: Complete brand design system, brand guidelines, asset package
Total duration: 4–5 weeks | Investment: From €18,500.00

| Helder | Industry standard | |
| Process | Our process is transparent, iterative and modular. You decide which modules you want to implement with us and when. | The process is often offered only as a fixed overall package. Development steps remain less transparent throughout the project. |
| Project team | You work with a dedicated team of strategists and designers with many years of branding experience. | Strategic consulting and creative execution are often organizationally separated. |
| Specialization | We develop brand identities that not only look good, but are built on a clear strategic foundation. | The focus is often more on visual design than on the strategic foundation of the brand. |
| Strategy | Before we design, we define positioning, target audiences, brand values and brand essence. | Design often starts directly with visual concepts or moodboards. |
| Method | With the Helder Brand Frame®, we create a solid foundation for all creative decisions. | Design decisions are more often based on taste, trends or individual opinions. |
| Design | You can choose between two design routes. The final result is developed further together and iteratively. | Often, a single design concept is presented, with clients having only limited influence on the outcome. |
| Implementation | We provide guidelines, templates and practical tools so that your brand can be applied consistently. | The collaboration often ends once the design assets have been handed over. |
| Client feedback | 100% recommendation rate, transparent reference projects and genuine client testimonials. | References and concrete project insights are often only available to a limited extent. |

Frequently asked questions about brand design
-
What is brand design and which elements does it include?
Brand design is the visual translation of a brand strategy. It makes visible what a brand stands for, how it differs from the competition and how it should be perceived by its target audience.
A complete brand design therefore consists of more than just a logo. It includes elements such as color concept, typography, layout grid, visual language, brand icons and key visuals. Together, these elements form a visual system that works across different applications.
Good brand design ensures that websites, presentations, social media, trade fair appearances and other touchpoints are perceived as part of the same brand. The goal is a visual identity that is recognizable, distinctive and suitable for long-term use.
-
Why should brand design be based on a clear brand strategy?
Brand design should make visible what a brand stands for. To achieve this, there first needs to be clarity about target audiences and positioning. Without this strategic foundation, design decisions quickly become a matter of taste. A brand strategy, on the other hand, provides concrete criteria for evaluating and justifying design decisions.
At Helder, the Brand Frame® therefore forms the strategic foundation for the design. This results in a design briefing that translates the brand identity into concrete requirements for the visual identity.
The result is not simply a design that looks contemporary, but a brand design that supports the positioning and sends the right signals to the target audience.
-
Do we need a finished brand strategy before we start with brand design?
No. An existing brand strategy is helpful, but it is not a prerequisite for working together.
At the beginning, we assess whether the existing strategic foundation is sufficient to make clear design decisions. If important foundations are missing or there are differing views within the team, we develop or refine them together before the design process begins.
This ensures that the brand design is not based on assumptions or personal preferences, but on a clear strategic foundation.
-
How does the brand design process with Helder work?
The development of a brand design at Helder takes place in three consecutive phases.
At the beginning, we review or develop the strategic foundation and translate it into a design briefing.Based on this, we create two design routes. Both translate the same brand identity in different ways. Exemplary applications show how each direction works in practice.
After the presentation, you choose one route. This is further developed based on your consolidated feedback, finalized and then documented in brand guidelines.
-
How long does it take to develop a professional brand design?
For the development of a complete brand design, we generally plan four to five weeks.
This timeframe requires clear points of contact and consolidated feedback. If a brand strategy also needs to be developed or an extensive roll-out is planned, the overall process will take correspondingly longer.
-
How much does it cost to develop a professional brand design?
A complete brand design project at Helder starts at €15,000.
The exact scope depends on which design elements need to be developed. In addition to logo, typography and color concept, a comprehensive system can also include visual language, icons, key visuals, layout grids and other brand-specific elements.
After an initial conversation, we can assess which scope makes sense for your brand and prepare a concrete proposal.
-
How do we ensure that our new brand design is used consistently in everyday practice?
A brand design only works in the long term if internal and external teams can apply it independently.
For the guidelines, we hold a separate briefing session to capture the requirements of your day-to-day work. In addition, templates can be developed that enable marketing and communication teams to create new applications independently.
After the handover, there is a follow-up session to clarify any open questions about application and ensure that your team can work confidently with the new brand design.
-
What sets Helder apart from a traditional design agency?
With our Brand Frame®, we create a clear framework for your brand strategy. This makes creative decisions easier to justify and evaluate together.
In the design process, we develop two different design routes. You decide which direction is developed further and are involved in the process through a transparent, iterative approach. The result is not just a visual outcome, but a complete design system with guidelines and assets that your team can use over the long term and across different touchpoints.
